Eric Sifton wins GM Grand Master Gold National Championship title.

For the second year in a row Eric has won the ‘Drivability’ sector of the national competition. Sifton was required to diagnose and repair a GMC Envoy that was not starting and had a number of other pre-programmed problems.

All GM technicians are eligible to qualify for the title. They must complete five exams in a chosen category and score 100 per cent to be eligible for a scheduled, national online test. The top finishers from each of the 10 zones across Canada are then required to complete a scored evaluation diagnosis and repair to a vehicle. The top two scores in each category are then granted the champion title.

Sifton said he has always had an interest in cars, dating back to high school in Ontario. “I grew up on a farm, so you’re always having to fix things – fix machinery, fix cars and that sort of thing,” he said.

“The best satisfaction is taking something that someone else couldn’t repair and resolving it.”

Sifton is the first Tom Harris technician to win a grand master title, but he is confident he won’t be the last. “I have no doubt that we have other employees that will get there,” he said.
